If your idea of a visit to Surfers involves zero sand, maximum serenity and an all-round zen-sational experience, has entered the chat. Freshly renovated and now serving modern coastal calm with a serious side of luxe, this award-winning serenity sanctuary is guaranteed to give you resting bliss face.Tucked inside Mantra on View, a wee two-minute wander from Surfers Paradise beach, this long-loved spa has been around for over a decade. But, after a change of ownership in August 2024 and a three-month top-to-toe reno, Ocean Day Spa has majorly levelled up in look and feel.

Ocean Day Spa, Surfers Paradise (image supplied)

Inside, it’s giving contemporary coastal indulgence, with soft tones, soothing textures, and that instantly zen feeling that makes you forget what day it is. Think sophisticated, tranquil, and just bougee enough to feel like a treat, without the awkward “am I allowed to touch anything?” energy.

The newly refreshed space was designed for maximum chill and minimal rush, and we love that for us. Reimagined under new owner Lara Kocjancic, this chick knows a thing or two about relaxation, having spent five years as Director of Relaxation Corporation at Sea World Resort (résumé flex). Her vision? A refined, unhurried haven where guests are encouraged to slow down before, during, and after their treatments.

Ocean Day Spa, Surfers Paradise (image supplied)
Ocean Day Spa, Surfers Paradise (image supplied)

Inside, you’ll find three couples’ rooms, a peaceful relaxation space, a sauna, showers, and single treatment rooms – all designed to encourage lingering, not rushing back to reality.

The treatment menu is stacked, with 11 massage and pamper-based packages. This includes two options for mums-to-be, and a Gentleman’s Retreat for the fellas who roll their eyes when the missus sashays off to the spa – but secretly want to come with. Treatments are delivered by the ultimate steam team; highly sought after therapists at the top of their game who know precisely how to hit the spot (literally).

Of all the packages, we simply must shoutout A Day at The Beach. Clocking in at a glorious five hours, it includes an infrared detox sauna session, warm floral foot soak, luxury soy candle relaxation massage, hot stone back massage, organic coconut and argan oil head massage with hot towel infusion, skin smoothing body polish, and a hydrating or detox body mask.

Cheese platters are included with all packages, and there are body masks and scrubs featuring chocolate, vanilla/honey, and grape, plus massage oils infused with gold or chocolate – because why wouldn’t you want to leave glowing like a human Ferrero Rocher?

You can mix and match treatments as long as the total time hits 60 minutes, meaning your spa day can be as customised as your coffee order. As for reasons to visit, the list is endless. Pre-lunch group catch ups with the girlies, dates to ignite some serious calm-istry, birthdays, hens parties, baby showers, or simply “thank god I survived the week” visits are all perfectly good reasons to book.

For the glow-getters, Ocean Day Spa offers four fabulous facial treatments (plus waxing). Each focus on a different skin concern from anti-ageing, hydration, and sensitive skin to brightening or acne and blemishes #DewNotDisturb. They use (and sell) the high-end stuff too; luxury European skincare products from Afrodita Cosmetics.

So if your nervous system is fried, your calendar is chaotic, or you’re simply overdue for some spa-rkle in your life, this is your sign. Ocean Day Spa is back – and Lara understood the assignment. The result? A unanimous A+ for premium pampering, serene ahhh‑mbience, and a coastal chic glow-up so on-point, you’ll be back on the reg.

7 reasons locals love Surfers Paradise

The original icon of the Gold Coast.

Surfers Paradise Beach - Photo by Will O (Image from Unsplash)
Surfers Paradise Beach - Photo by Will O (Image from Unsplash)

Once upon a time we left holidaymakers to their own devices in arguably the GC’s most famous beachside suburb, but off the beaten path – well to be fair, some are still very much on it – locals have been keeping these gems all to themselves for a little too long if you ask us. That’s right, Surfers Paradise is more than a postcard-perfect destination, it’s a lifestyle locals love to embrace, because why should we leave all the fun to the tourists! So now we’re here to spill the beans on all the reasons locals can’t get enough of Surfers Paradise.

Outdoor Dining at Paradise Centre, Surfers Paradise (image supplied)
Outdoor Dining at Paradise Centre, Surfers Paradise (image supplied)

For all-in-one spots
Surfers Paradise does convenience like a pro with destinations where you can shop, eat, and play all in one spot. Paradise Centre is a beachside fave with a mix of fashion, food, and fun, right at your fingertips in the heart of Cavill Mall. Just a short stroll away you’ll find Soul Boardwalk where laidback vibes met beachside dining and retail therapy aplenty – because what better way to get the food digesting than with a shopping moment.

If an urban escape is more up your alley then pop on over to Chevron Renaissance for all your boutique shopping needs, whether it’s a bite to eat, to grab groceries for the week, a new fit for that special event or a pedicure pamper moment your wish is their command. The two hour free parking is also a big drawcard!

All-you-can eats
If you’re in the market for a buffet that’ll bowl you over then you’ve come to the right place because at this point buffet should be Surfers Paradise’s middle name.

Locals know that they’ve got the buffet game locked down so if you’re up for eating so much seafood you’ll need to unbutton your pants to fit in another plate then Citrique at the JW Marriott has your name all over it.

Just down the highway you’ll find a bustling international market that dreams (and hungry bellies) are made of with QT Gold Coast’s iconic Bazaar Marketplace experience.

Edging on the cusp of neighbouring Broady, Horizon Sky Dining might have pretty much everything on the menu but what about revolving panoramic views of the Gold Coast? They’ve got those two and we’ll take a plate of both thank you very much.

To escape the hustle & bustle head to Bumbles. Budds Beach has long been a local secret but there’s good reason why Gold Coasters have been flocking to this hot spot for 10+ years. Get your coffee fix, some snacks and set up on the edge of Budds Beach for the ultimate start to the day.

Okay party people, we hear you asking where to go get Gold Coast vibes going and it’s obviously got to be Cali Beach Club – it’s giving European inspired beach party so you’re guaranteed a good time. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it we say, so it’s no wonder locals keep going back for more at The Island Rooftop, an institution for good reason you can’t beat the open air and the huge beverage list never fails us.

Coast Beach Bar Terrace, Surfers Paradise (image supplied)

The buffet is always a winner at Citrique, but have you tried their a la carte? Take this as your sign to snag a seat and let the food come to you while you spoil yourself with the Chef’s Signature Bay Bug Dumplings (life-changing) or some chargrilled Australian Wagyu.

Elevated Thai is the word at Nahm Talay Thai, all your regular favourites but even better and cocktails that are just begging to be instagrammed – bonus point for the beach front views.

Let the good times roll
Surfers Paradise isn’t short on adrenaline or intrigue and it doesn’t matter if it’s your first or 50th time visiting, they still pack the same punch in our humble opinion.

Scale SkyPoint for unbeatable views atop the Q1, chill out (literally) at the IceBar and get a moment to reflect at the Mirror Bar – see what we did there.

If you’d rather enter another dimension for a little while then Infinity is begging for you to explore their mysterious maze or drop into Other World HQ and escape the ordinary with mind-bending interactive games and escape rooms. Test your team work (and maybe patience) at Eclipse Escape Rooms and Fox in a Box, go on – put that big ol’ brain to work.

We’re partial to a trip down nostalgia lane so we’re always down to battle it out at Timezone, and when there’s fun for all ages on the menu how could you not! Feeling flighty? Take a literal leap of faith at iFly and get a taste of indoor skydiving before you brave the great outdoors.

Spice-fuelled Feasts

SABA Kitchen serves bold pan-Asian flavours inside Hotel Jardin.

SABA Kitchen, Hotel Jardin (image supplied)
SABA Kitchen, Hotel Jardin (image supplied)

Champagne sips and oyster slurps that roll into a full pan-Asian feast?! You had us at champagne. SABA Kitchen in Hotel Jardin is our latest obsession, and it’s about to be yours, too. Think fresh local ingredients coming together to create exotic flavour bombs, better known as seriously addictive share plates. We’re drooling already…

SABA Kitchen, Hotel Jardin (image supplied)
SABA Kitchen, Hotel Jardin (image supplied)

Tucked inside the sleek, modern $10-million multi-level entertainment and dining precinct in Surfers Paradise, SABA Kitchen is not a quick pit stop kind of venue- it’s a settle-in and loosen your belt situation. They serve lush, pan-Asian dishes designed to be shared and paired with carefully curated cocktails. The atmosphere is alluring, and the menu, led by Executive Chef Minh Le, is spice-driven, bold, and blends fresh local ingredients with inspired flavours from across Asia.

The offering is designed to suit all appetites and occasions, with snacks, small plates, large plates, sides and generous five or seven-plate banquets for those who want the full SABA experience. Whether it’s a cocktail-and-caviar-at-golden-hour type of day or a going-all-in occasion, the menu encourages exploration, as all good menus should.

SABA Kitchen, Hotel Jardin (image supplied)

The flavour journey kicks off strong with raw and lightly cured dishes that feel fresh, bright and impeccably balanced. Think caviar bumps and Sydney rock oysters before things turn up a notch with sashimi kissed with yuzu and heirloom tomatoes with stracciatella, basil oil, and champagne vinaigrette. From there, things turn smoky and seductive thanks to the Robata grill, with skewers charred to perfection and packed with flavour.

SABA Kitchen, Hotel Jardin (image supplied)

Standout plates include the Hervey Bay scallops, served on the half shell with yuzu, garlic butter and brioche crumbs; the robata-grilled skewers; and the Mooloolaba prawns, served with xo coconut sauce, coriander oil, tobiko and lemon meringue.

Then there’s the duck, which deserves its own paragraph. The game-farm duck breast is 10-day dry-aged, glazed with honey and paired with sweet potato and lotus crisp. It’s sticky, savoury, slightly sweet (aka, on point). And, while everything at SABA is best shared, this one may need to be an exception…it’s just too good!

SABA Kitchen, Hotel Jardin (image supplied)

The interiors mirror the menu’s mood – sleek, modern and layered with a warmth that instantly draws you in. Intentional or not, SABA Kitchen strikes a perfect balance across the board: in its dishes, atmosphere, and design. Intimate yet energetic, it feels polished without ever tipping into pretentious. This is a space made for connection and celebration, where long lunches blur into afternoon drinks and dinner dates linger. Where you lose track of time.

Open daily from 11:30am into the late evening, SABA Kitchen fits seamlessly into the Surfers Paradise dining scene while offering something distinct. It’s the kind of restaurant you recommend confidently to out-of-towners, to foodie friends, or to yourself on a Wednesday when cooking is off the table. Come hungry, order generously. Get your SABA on.
