One of the Gold Coast’s most beloved beachfront institutions has officially paddled into a fresh new chapter, with Nobby’s Beach Surf Club joining forces with The Bears Group, the legends behind Burleigh Leagues Club, Burleigh Sports Club, and Burleigh Bears. Translation? Same iconic surf club, now backed by local hospitality heroes.
You heard it here first: a meeting of Gold Coast greats! On one side, Nobby’s SLSC, holding down the coastline since 1954. On the other, The Bears Group, known for rejuvenating those local Burleigh venues we all know and love. Together the partnership promises renewed strength, sustainability and a future that honours the past while levelling things up a little.

In simple terms, Nobby’s Surf Life Saving Club continues its long-standing mission on the beach, while The Bears Group takes the reins on the supporters club side, bringing refreshed menus, bars, bistros and gaming.

But wait, there’s more! While we won’t spill all the beans just yet, major renovations are coming in 2027, with plans to modernise the venue and upgrade facilities, ensuring Nobby’s Beach Surf Club remains a welcoming, community-first club for decades to come.

Now, onto the all-important matter of food. The refreshed menu keeps those classic surf club comforts while weaving in modern touches. Take, for example, the Stone & Wood battered Lobster Tacos – soft shell tacos loaded with battered lobster, baby gem, and sriracha mayo. They’re generous, indulgent, and an undisputed headliner.
Beyond tacos, the menu is stacked with familiar favourites, crowd-pleasers, and easygoing plates designed for grazing with a cold beer, crisp wine, or something a little more celebratory from the bar. Next to your classics, they’ve got dishes like grilled Byron Bay Haloumi with truffle honey and roasted dukkah, Vego Power Bowls, Caramelised Pumpkin Pasta Napoletana, and Toasted Olive Oil Crostini with roasted dukkah and whipped hummus.

Not a member yet? Here’s why you should be. The new partnership brings bigger rewards, including a multi-venue rewards program, more dining and hospitality experiences, and more ways to earn, enjoy, and feel part of the Nobby’s community. In addition, current members who hold a valid Nobby’s Beach Surf Club membership card will be gifted a FREE five year club membership to The Bears Group.
If it’s been a while since your last visit, here’s your friendly re-introduction: Nobby’s Beach Surf Club is now open seven days a week, trading daily from 10am-10pm. Pop in for live music every Sunday from 2pm-5pm, or get your Friday fix with meat and seafood tray raffles drawn at 6.30pm.

Just Deli-cious

Giuseppe’s Deli is dishing up proper Italian eats in Mermaid Beach.

There’s something comforting about a proper Italian deli. The kind where the food is stacked generously, the menu doesn’t shout and everything feels like it’s been done this way forever, because it has.

The newly refreshed Giuseppe’s Deli is officially back in action under new management at The Oxley 1823. And trust us, this one’s got the goods.

Inspired by old-world Italian delis, Giuseppe’s isn’t chasing the next viral dish or reinventing the wheel. Instead, it’s focused on quality ingredients, traditional combos and the sort of food that doesn’t need explaining, just devouring.

If you know the foodie hub that is The Oxley 1823, you know that Giuseppe’s Deli fits right in. Designed and built by Dankav, the fit-out strikes that sweet spot between food court convenience and fancy piazza charm with indoor and outdoor dining that invites you to linger, or pop in quickly and leave with something excellent in hand. It’s casual and welcoming like your local… even if it’s your first visit.

At the helm of both The Oxley 1823 and now Giuseppe’s Deli is Daniel Veitch, who’s brought new life to the deli since reopening on November 28. Giuseppe’s is now also the home of the Oxley Village Market, giving the space a renewed sense of community and making it just as much a meeting place as it is somewhere to eat.

Now let’s talk food, because this is where Giuseppe’s really shines.

The hero of the menu is the create-your-own focaccia sandwich, a choose-your-own-adventure situation that we fully support. Fresh focaccia with quality fillings and classic Italian flavour combinations that are stacked, pressed and made exactly how you like it. It’s simple, yes, but simplicity done well is a rare thing.

Want someone to make the decisions for you? You are very much catered for at Giuseppe’s. The Parma Hot Honey on Burleigh Baker sourdough stacks prosciutto, stracciatella, rocket, capsicum drizzled it all in a hit of sweet heat. The Triple Cheese Truffle layers mozzarella, Swiss and provolone with truffle mayo for maxo indulgence, while the Inferno Melt brings together salami inferno, chilli and chipotle mayo for those who like things extra spicy.

Beyond the focaccia, there’s a strong lineup of quick-to-serve deli-style pastas, available from 11am. Think pappardelle with rich bolognese ragù, Rigatoni alla carbonara or pillowy gnocchi with pesto and roasted tomatoes. They’re the kind of comforting dishes that taste like they’ve been made by nonna.

Add in antipasto, cheeses, daily specials and excellent produce throughout, and you’ve got a deli that caters to every occasion.

The new look Giuseppe’s Deli isn’t trying to be fancy. It’s about good food, good produce and taking the time to get it right. It’s a place you’ll keep coming back to, because it’s simply deli-cious.
