Looking for something positively out-of-this-world to entertain the fam this school holidays? Yep, us too and have we got some homegrown inspo for you! It’s an iconic, homegrown attraction which sits right under our nose and has increased its awesome-factor exponentially in recent times. Tried and tested by us and our mini-me, it’s a winner winner chicken dinner with both the kiddos…and the big kiddos. With loads of brand-new exhibits (plus a couple of golden oldies which remind of us of our childhood – world’s tallest man, we’re looking at you), Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! needs to make an appearance on your itinerary. From the nine-metre blue-ringed octopus glowing on the top of the building to four new fun-filled galleries and never-before-seen exhibits, there’s more unbelievable to experience than you can poke a laser beam at! Which leads us to LaseRace, a super popular attraction inviting you to beat the clock as you wiggle and wind your way through laser beams. How cool?!

Galactic explorers, it’s time for a space odyssey! Blast off to the unpredictable and spectacular world of space in this super cool, interactive new exhibit that lets you feel the effects of space travel on the human body. You’ll travel to a galaxy far, far away as you come face-to-face with a life-size version of R2-D2™ and a piece of the Zagami Mars meteorite from our very own galaxy! Mind=blown.

The Funplex is a bright, bold interactive gallery of, yep you guessed it, fun! Lose track of time and let your senses be your guide as you explore the dozens of optical illusions, hands-on interactives, and sensory experiences. The all-new Art Gallery is another must see, showcasing left-of-centre visual brain-benders like an entire scene made from different colours of lint! And a lion created with coloured pencils (the actual pencils themselves) and we think this is totally roarsome.

But that’s not all because Ripley’s have also launched a separate attraction which is just as unmissable, the state-of-the-art Ripley’s 7D Moving Theatre. No that’s not a typo, we do mean 7 as you’re not just watching – you’re feeling every last twist and turn as you compete against your seatmates for the highest score! You’ll be left hanging at the edge of your seat with six high-impact 3D films to choose from; ‘Neon Ninja’, ‘Los Banditos’, ‘Carnival’, Robot Riot’, ‘Werewolves’ and ‘Zombies’. But maybe don’t choose, just do them all!

Dig It Mini Excavator Park at Thunderbird Park lets kids graduate from sandcastles to operating real excavators. With construction-inspired activities and safety-first operators, it’s the ultimate hands-on experience.

Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk offers breathtaking views and a chance to stroll among the treetops. It’s an easy walk suitable for families, with photo ops aplenty.

Over at Mountview Alpacas, kids can hand-feed these fluffy friends while parents kick back with a coffee or wine in hand. It’s a win-win situation.

It’s right under our nose, but sometimes we forget how many activities there are for the small, medium, and big kids (aka us) in good ‘ole Surfers Paradise. And we’re not just talking about the beach, but a myriad of other cool stuff to keep them entertained and whinge-free these school holidays.

I mean, does this place really need an introduction? We’ve all racked up many-an-hour at Timezone in days gone by, and your mini-me’s will love it as much as you did. Probably more, because it’s levelled up its epic-ness in recent times. With arcade games, bowling, mini bowling, mini golf, laser tag, and bumper cars, it’s actual kid heaven…with a touch of nostalgia for us.
