Christmas goes sky-high

Get ready to sleigh your festive season - 230 metres off the ground!

Christmas in the Clouds, SkyPoint (image supplied)

If you thought your Christmas party plans were looking up this year, you’re absolutely right. SkyPoint’s Christmas in the Clouds is quite literally taking celebrations to new heights, because why settle for ground-level festivities when you can jingle all the way to 230 metres above the Gold Coast?

On Friday 12th December, the SkyPoint Observation Deck is transforming into a twinkling, tinsel-draped Euro-style Winter Wonderland, complete with snow and a healthy sprinkle of Aussie sparkle. The perfect Christmas party destination, you’ll be surrounded by the city’s glittering skyline, roving winter performers, and a live band bringing the vibes faster than you can say “pass the prosecco.”

Forget fighting over who’s in charge of booking the karaoke machine or trying to coordinate a potluck lunch that somehow ends up being 80% dips. SkyPoint’s Christmas in the Clouds is a stress-free celebration designed for small teams, friends, or anyone who wants to kick back and toast the year that was – without lifting a finger. You just show up, sip something sparkling, and let the magic (and mistletoe) do the rest.

The night kicks off with an indulgent four-course festive feast that’s as extra as a Kardashian Christmas card. We’re talking fresh seafood straight from Aussie shores, seasonal produce worthy of a cooking show close-up, and mains that feel like a warm hug from Mrs. Claus herself. And it just wouldn’t be Christmas without decadent desserts plus a final flourish of farmhouse cheeses to share at the table. It’s fancy, it’s festive, and it’s definitely not your standard “chicken or beef” situation.

Keeping your spirits bright (and your glasses full), you’ll enjoy a premium 4.5-hour beverage package so whether you’re partial to wine, bubbles, or something a little more spirited, there’ll be plenty to jingle your bells. Add in roving entertainers and a live band that’ll have you out of your seat faster than you can say “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” and you’ve got a night that’s part party, part performance, and entirely unforgettable.

And yes, the rumours are true – Santa himself is dusting off his summer boardies to make a special appearance. So, if you’ve been more nice than naughty this year (or at least faked it convincingly), you might even score a selfie with the big man in red.

The best part? You get to enjoy all of this while gazing out over the glittering lights of the Gold Coast – 230 metres in the air. With 360-degree panoramic views from Coolangatta to Brisbane, it’s the most spectacular setting to toast to the year that’s been and manifest some serious good vibes for the one ahead.

But here’s the thing – tickets are limited, and once they’re gone, that’s it. So if you want to secure your spot in this sky-high celebration, don’t leave it to the last minute (Santa’s not the only one making a list this year).

11 of the best Gold Coast buffets

The only time it’s good to have a lot on your plate.

The history of buffet style eating is a mixed affair. Its origins could be said to hark back to a mixture of cultures — from Asia to Europe. The ‘smorgasbord’ became internationally known as such at the 1939 New York World’s Fair exhibition, because the Swedes had to invent a new way of showcasing the best of Swedish food to large numbers of visitors. And the rest, as they say, is history…

Whoever can claim to have been responsible, we’re not fussed! The point is buffets — and smorgasbords — are amazing ways to reach newfound eating goals, and we’ve got quite a few exceptional ones right here on the Gold Coast. Happy binge eating, folks!

7 reasons locals love Surfers Paradise

The original icon of the Gold Coast.

Once upon a time we left holidaymakers to their own devices in arguably the GC’s most famous beachside suburb, but off the beaten path – well to be fair, some are still very much on it – locals have been keeping these gems all to themselves for a little too long if you ask us. That’s right, Surfers Paradise is more than a postcard-perfect destination, it’s a lifestyle locals love to embrace, because why should we leave all the fun to the tourists! So now we’re here to spill the beans on all the reasons locals can’t get enough of Surfers Paradise.

For all-in-one spots
Surfers Paradise does convenience like a pro with destinations where you can shop, eat, and play all in one spot. Paradise Centre is a beachside fave with a mix of fashion, food, and fun, right at your fingertips in the heart of Cavill Mall. Just a short stroll away you’ll find Soul Boardwalk where laidback vibes met beachside dining and retail therapy aplenty – because what better way to get the food digesting than with a shopping moment.

If an urban escape is more up your alley then pop on over to Chevron Renaissance for all your boutique shopping needs, whether it’s a bite to eat, to grab groceries for the week, a new fit for that special event or a pedicure pamper moment your wish is their command. The two hour free parking is also a big drawcard!

All-you-can eats
If you’re in the market for a buffet that’ll bowl you over then you’ve come to the right place because at this point buffet should be Surfers Paradise’s middle name.

Locals know that they’ve got the buffet game locked down so if you’re up for eating so much seafood you’ll need to unbutton your pants to fit in another plate then Citrique at the JW Marriott has your name all over it.

Just down the highway you’ll find a bustling international market that dreams (and hungry bellies) are made of with QT Gold Coast’s iconic Bazaar Marketplace experience.

Edging on the cusp of neighbouring Broady, Horizon Sky Dining might have pretty much everything on the menu but what about revolving panoramic views of the Gold Coast? They’ve got those two and we’ll take a plate of both thank you very much.

For your morning sips
If you’re anything like us, the day doesn’t start until coffee has been sipped. Kickstart your day with the perfect brew at ESPL Coffee. This beachside gem is great for delicious bites with a friendly vibe.

If you’re seeking people who are serious about coffee, Paradox Coffee Roasters is the destination you seek. They are committed to producing the highest quality coffee there is — just ask the locals!

Like your morning sip with a side of epic treats? Janus Bakehouse is for you… don’t mind us drooling just thinking about it.

To escape the hustle & bustle head to Bumbles. Budds Beach has long been a local secret but there’s good reason why Gold Coasters have been flocking to this hot spot for 10+ years. Get your coffee fix, some snacks and set up on the edge of Budds Beach for the ultimate start to the day.

Things to do on the Gold Coast at sunset

Make the most of golden hour.

The Exhibitionist Bar at HOTA Gallery (image supplied)
The Exhibitionist Bar at HOTA Gallery (image supplied)

Sunset has to be the best time of the day (some people we know say sunrise, but we wouldn’t know, ahem) – so sunset it is.

Now that spring has sprung, cue the Spotify sunset mix, we’re keen to start enjoying the balmy evenings and appreciate this gorgeous time of day. To get you all inspired, here’s a list of some of the best sunset-chasing adventures on the Gold Coast. Psst – there’s more to do at golden hour than snap the perfect pic (although you must also do that) #everythingiscontent.

Kick back at a rooftop bar

This one’s a no-brainer, but hear us out. Sure, it took the Gold Coast a minute to catch up to our southern pals in the rooftop bar game. Odd, right? Especially considering we’ve got the best weather in the country, no contest. But hey, better late than never! These days, we’re spoiled for choice with rooftop spots all over the Coast. So why not make up for lost time? Pick your favorite perch, grab a drink, and soak in that golden hour glow as the sun sets on another perfect day. We love The Exhibitionist Bar for its ever-evolving and always killer cocktail list or Sandfire for a sophisticated (kids free) sip overlooking the North Burleigh headland. Aviary Rooftop brings tropical vibes and DJ beats as the sky turns pink, while feeling fancy types will love Nineteen at The Star for elevated drinks and sweeping skyline views. And if ocean outlooks are your thing, Hyde Paradiso serves Euro glamour with a side of sunset over Surfers.

Check out our full list of rooftop bars here.

Get outdoors

Sometimes the best sunsets don’t need a booking (or a bar tab). A golden hour wander along the Burleigh Headland that rolls seamlessly into sunset is hard to beat, especially when the light hits just right. For an easy, feel-good option, take a sunset stroll or bike ride along the ocean pathways, where salty air, pastel skies and that end-of-day glow do all the heavy lifting. If you’re keen to mix things up, the Hinze Dam sunset lookout delivers wide-open skies and a totally different perspective on the Coast. And when in doubt, a Broadwater Parklands wander with an ice cream in hand as the sun dips behind the skyline is always a good idea.

Check out our list of picnic spots here.

Grab a laid-back surf club bite

Surf clubs are lifesavers, aren’t they? Perched right on your local stretch of sand, they somehow tick every box – prime oceanfront views, affordable drinks and hearty eats, all served up in a setting where thongs are not only acceptable but encouraged. They’re unfussy, unpretentious, and always ready to deliver a reliable palmy when hunger strikes. Come for the sunset, stay for the chilled beer and a classic pub-style feed that won’t break the bank.

It’s casual, comforting and effortlessly coastal – the kind of place where sunset plans require zero planning at all. If there’s a more quintessentially Gold Coast way to soak up the end of the day, we’re yet to find it.

Sunset at the Skypoint Observation Deck (image supplied)

Sunset in style

This is where things get a little luxe (and a lot memorable). A sunset cruise on the Broadwater is a classic for a reason – romantic if it’s just the two of you, or equally fun with a group. Prefer to be closer to the action? Kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding at sunset is pure magic when the water is calm and glowing, while a jet ski session at golden hour delivers adrenaline with unbeatable views. Take things to new heights – literally – at SkyPoint Observation Deck, where 360-degree sunset views from the Coast’s highest vantage point are hard to beat.

Check out our list of water sports and activity providers here.

Prep your schedules, friends, because another sunset is on its way.
