The Bookbinder arrives at HOTA with a haunting and imaginative theatre experience for older children and adults.
An old man begins to read the story of a former bookbinding apprentice, and soon the tale spills from the page into a world of shadow play, paper art, puppetry and live music. Dark, magical and richly inventive, The Bookbinder unfolds like a modern fairytale in the spirit of Coraline and Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.
First performed in the back room of a second-hand bookshop, this award-winning production from Trick of the Light Theatre has toured internationally, from New Zealand and Australia to the UK, Canada, China and the USA including the Lincoln Center in New York.
Inventive, intimate and unforgettable, The Bookbinder is a must-see piece of storytelling theatre.
