Socials of our VIP celebration: view the photos and video!

Turning 10 is important. Particularly in a world where attention spans are bite-sized at best, everyone has an opinion on what you’re doing and how you’re doing it and in the world of online media, you’re only as interesting as the last thing you created.

It’s rough out there and yet, if you’re passionate (and stubborn) enough you’ll build something millions of people will come to love and rely on when it comes to learning about the greatest city in the world – the Gold Coast.

Since you’re here, you understand that thing is Inside Gold Coast and this year, the Coast’s sunshiny-est local media organisation turned 10 years old and I’m going to tell you all about it

Carly King, Inside Gold Coast (image supplied)
Carly King, Inside Gold Coast (image supplied)

First things first, there was a party at The Star Gold Coast way up high at The Darling – and it involved champagne and dancing and a toast to the one who started it all, Carly King.

If there’s ever been a person more passionate about the Gold Coast, I’ve never heard of them and I’ve done at least 6438 laps of this city meeting people who are big, big fans. Carly however, loves it so much that she started Inside Gold Coast as a way to keep people informed of everything to eat, drink and do here.

The first year of IGC was probably very interesting and growthy but THEN in 2016 I joined the team as the sole Content Creator and everything became hilarious and entertaining and fun.

Over the next few years Carly and I lived and breathed the Gold Coast. Together we nurtured and grew Inside Gold Coast into something that felt far more like part of who I was than simply just a job.

The job bit though, was very fun. In just my first few weeks of working here I rode a jet ski so fast, floated about on Quack‘R Duck, had the time of my life at the likes of Infinity and Ripley’s Believe It or Not! and experienced almost every tourist activity the Gold Coast had to offer.

Over the years Carly (and I) went to parties and restaurant openings, stage shows and circuses and I met more incredible, interesting and impressive locals than I thought it was possible to fit into one city.

All of it changed me and my life in ways I had never imagined possible.

Fast forward to today and Inside Gold Coast is still growing and thriving with a team of 15 women from writers to designers, social media whizzes, organisers of absolutely everything, photographers, a sales team and of course, Carly still leading the charge.
In the last 10 years the Gold Coast has been through some absolutely incredible changes and exponential growth and Inside Gold Coast was right there for all of it, covering everything from a new cafe on the corner to the Commonwealth Games and beyond.

I couldn’t be prouder to be part of the Inside Gold Coast team, my time here has gifted me people, experiences and a life I would never have dreamed possible before I met Carly and she told me not only did I have to write stories but take photos out in public with a real camera (something I had no idea how to do at the time).

I’m even prouder still of Carly for her passion and dedication and everything she’s built for the Gold Coast.

So, cheers to 10 years of Inside Gold Coast, the thing that changed my life and the thing that makes everyone else’s that little bit easier, tastier and more fun.
Here’s to (at least) 10 more.

What’s your coffee order and go-to cafe: Soy latte in winter, iced coffee of any milk variety in all other seasons. Ooh go-to cafe… wherever is closest, but love All-Time Coffee in Mermaid Beach, Sparrow Coffee in Nobby’s and Caffeine Kings in Miami.
Brekky catch up: Paddock, Tarte Beach House, BSKT, Elk or Bam Bam Bakehouse do an incredibly impressive spread, catering to a variety of sweet and savoury tastebuds, or porque no los dos?
Brunch with bubbles: See above but add Bloody Mary’s.
Long Lunch with the girls: The Tropic has to have one of the best views on the Coast, great for share food, and then within a hop, skip and jump to Burleigh Pav to continue the party.
Hang with the crew on Sunday sess: Any surf club along our coastline for the win.
Fancy Date night: If you have planned well enough in advance to get into Rickshores, you get my tick of approval.
The bomb takeaway comes from: No one does Butter Chicken and heat in a curry than Temple of Spices in Mermaid Beach. For the largest portions of Chinese I’ve ever seen, Magic Wok in Miami, IYKYK.
Where to boogie: Retro’s you have a piece of my heart always.
Fave store for retail therapy: I can spend hours in both Mecca Maxima and Bookface at Pacific Fair. Also Somm Wine Store for expert advice on matching wine to food.
You’ll find me grabbing a drink at: The Exhibitionst Bar or anywhere with a chilli marg.

Coffee order and go-to cafe: Skim Cap. Oasis & Co. Amazing coffee and it’s super close to home, so you’ll often find me grabbing a coffee there before taking Charlie (our puppy) for a walk on the beach. Social Espresso is right around the corner the corner from work AND they have a handy app so I can order as I leave home and the coffee is ready for me to swing by and pick up on my way into the office.
Brekky catch up: It’s hard to go past Tarte. I always order the chicken sandwich. I highly recommend it. And obviously everything from the treats cabinet is out of this world.
Brunch with bubbles: Elk. Elk can do no wrong. They mix up their menus seasonally, and their food is a work or art. There’s always something fun and new to try. And the option to upgrade to mimosas is a fun bonus.
Long lunch with the girls: Siblings. This ex-Pizza Hut spot has one of the best views on the GC and the food and cocktails are amazing. I don’t often head to Kirra so it feels like a little getaway, but is only 30 mins from home.
Hang with the crew on Sunday sess: Precinct Brewinghttps://stage.insidegoldcoast.com.au/franc-jrs-nobby-beach
Fancy date night: Franc Jrs. I love the Old School pizza parlour vibes. Great mood lighting and ridiculously good pizza. You usually have to wait for a table – it’s that good – but you can enjoy a frozen margi on the sidewalk outside while you wait, so that sweetens the deal.
The bomb takeaway comes from: Temple of Spices
Fave store for retail therapy: Pac Fair. It’s my local. I’m a daily grocery shopper so I’m there all the time and I’m constantly walking around thinking how lucky we are to have such a great shopping centre. The Resort area in particular is gorgeous and I love that they always have something going on. Pops ups and new store openings.

Brunch with bubbles: The Sheraton at Main Beach (fav middle child works there), plus you can’t beat the tropical vibes and beach views.
Long lunch with the girls: Usually a team lunch (thanks Carly!) can be supporting anyone of our awesome clients…
Hang with the crew on Sunday sess: Last catch up with the girl crew was at Garden Kitchen & Bar, (loved the igloos for winter).
Fancy date night: For special event nights we head to Videre at Royal Pines (when they have them), top sunsets from the top floor!
The bomb takeaway comes from: Kampung Malay, must order at least one of the Rainbow Beef dishes (if not two).
Fav store for retail therapy: Just one store? Fav shopping destination is Pac Fair . . . so many stores to choose from.

Give me until the end of the week and I’ll have been twice.Hang with the crew on Sunday sess: This would be KDV Cararra – Sunday doesn’t have to be a rest day. No better time to hit the courts with your mates!Fancy date night: The Glenelg! It reminds me of home, and the food is fab. It’s got that quiet, moody but rustic vibe to it, makes you feel cosy.Fave store for retail therapy: Anywhere in Pac Fair honestly, what a place that is! But if I had to choose one it’d be JB HiFi, nothing better to therapise with more than treating yourself to a new piece of kit!

Soy double-shot cap is my jam (their coffee is the business), the food is always top-notch, booze is available from 10am, and the fabulous owners & beautiful people who work there are like family. Our twins were basically raised there!
Where to boogie: Sorry (not sorry) but Retro’s cannot be beat. I’m eternally in my 90s/naughties girl era and this place always belts out the bangers.
Fav store for retail therapy: ALL of the stores ha ha but Aje, Dissh, David Jones, and Mecca are my biggest Achilles heel.

First look: Benowa Gardens set for major ‘urban village’ transformation

30.04.06
Big changes could be coming to Benowa, with plans unveiled to transform the ageing Benowa Gardens shopping centre into a vibrant, inner city style lifestyle precinct. Inspired by Brisbane favourites like Gasworks and West Village, the proposed redevelopment would bring together dining, retail, health services and residential living in one walkable, all in one hub. The vision centres on reducing reliance on cars and placing everyday essentials within easy reach, reflecting a broader shift in how locals want to live.

Backed by strong community support, the project responds directly to growing housing pressures and demand for more connected neighbourhoods. Survey results show more than 80 per cent of locals support new housing in well located areas, with a clear preference for apartments and infill development over continued urban sprawl. Plans include a full line supermarket, around 30 specialty retailers, a major health and wellness precinct and hundreds of apartments above, creating a true live work play environment.

If approved, the Benowa Gardens transformation could mark a turning point for the Gold Coast, delivering a more efficient and sustainable model of suburban living while enhancing access to everyday amenities.

WE SAW IT FIRST: MIAMI VENUES TURNING HEADS AT DULUX COLOUR AWARDS

10.04.26
Gold Coast favourite Padre Brewing Co. in Miami is officially having a moment, named a finalist in the prestigious Dulux Colour Awards for its bold, nostalgic fit-out.

Brought to life by Studio Y, the space leans into playful 90s-inspired design, using striking colour blocking and soft tonal layers to create a dining experience that’s as memorable as the brews. It’s part of a wider trend sweeping hospitality design right now, where bolder palettes and clever colour application are being used to tell stories and evoke a sense of nostalgia.

Celebrating its 40th year, the Dulux Colour Awards received over 540 entries, with just 94 finalists making the cut—so yes, it’s a pretty big deal.

Winners will be announced at Barangaroo House in Sydney on Thursday 28 May… and we’ll be quietly backing our local…

NB: Inside Gold Coast would also like to give an honourary nod to Bar Monte (also in Miami), because while its sister venue in BrisVegas has officially made the finalist list with the vision of Studio Plenty in the Commercial Interior – Public & Hospitality category… we’d just like to point out we saw that colour palette first.

Miami Marketta Announces Major Expansion with Two New Venues

17.03.26
Miami Marketta has announced a landmark expansion that will see the creation of two entirely new venues, marking a bold new chapter for what has become the grassroots cultural hub of the Gold Coast.

The expansion introduces a purpose-built 1600+ capacity live music venue, The Syrup Factory, alongside a dedicated wedding venue, La Maddalena — each designed to fill significant gaps in the city’s cultural and event landscape.

The Syrup Factory — A New Era for Live Music on the Gold Coast
The Syrup Factory will be a dedicated large-scale live music venue designed to attract national and international touring acts that have traditionally bypassed the Gold Coast due to venue limitations.

La Maddalena — A Destination Wedding Venue in the Heart of the City
Couples will be married beneath open sky in a European-inspired courtyard before moving indoors for their reception — creating a seamless ceremony-to-celebration experience. Bookings for 2027 will open in the coming months, with the team intentionally keeping the final design details under wraps.

Construction is underway, with further announcements regarding opening dates and inaugural programming to follow.

Miami Marketta is not simply expanding — it is redefining what cultural infrastructure looks like on the Gold Coast.

Makris Group Unveils Visionary $500 Million Marina Mirage development

12.03.26
Makris Group has revealed the next chapter in its $500 million transformation of the iconic Marina Mirage, unveiling plans for a contemporary coastal village that blends luxury residences, a Marriott Luxury Collection hotel, curated dining, marina facilities, and public spaces. The development, aligned with the Queensland Government’s Spit Master Plan ahead of the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games, will release just 38 exclusive residences, including penthouses, villas, and private homes.

Designed by Fraser + Partners with interiors by Fiona Lynch Office and landscaping by Aspect Studios, the precinct draws inspiration from the world’s great Rivieras while remaining unmistakably Australian. Low-rise, human-scaled buildings are arranged around a central palm garden and 50-metre pool, with materials and forms referencing coastal geology, maritime heritage, and the site’s cultural significance. Interiors feature expansive terraces, high ceilings, and a tactile, elemental palette that seamlessly connects indoor and outdoor living.

The Marina Mirage Gold Coast, a Luxury Collection Resort by Marriott International, will anchor the precinct as the first mainland Luxury Collection property in Australia.

The development will include:
•  Curated dining and retail
•  Marina facilities and water access
•  Wellness and recreational spaces
•  Public realm and landscaped gardens

Under Makris Group’s stewardship, Marina Mirage will deliver a refined, eco-aligned precinct that enhances public amenity, celebrates the natural beauty of The Spit, and strengthens the Gold Coast’s global lifestyle and tourism credentials.

Australia’s first independent private birthing centre opens on the Gold Coast

4.03.26
Australia’s maternity landscape is set to change with the opening of Australia’s first independent private birthing centre, Matrescence Birthing Centres Gold Coast, which launched in Southport in February.

Founded by long-time midwife Shellanda Eller, Matrescence Birthing Centre offers a licensed, midwifery-led and obstetric-supported alternative for families seeking highly personalised care outside the traditional public and private hospital systems.

The highly collaborative approach combines continuity of care, holistic wellbeing services and strong clinical governance.

Growing demand for private, personalised birthing options
Interest in Matrescence has been strong well before opening, highlighting a growing appetite for maternity care models that sit outside conventional hospital settings.

Nationally, most births still occur in hospitals, with most taking place in public facilities. However, families are increasingly vocal about challenges such as fragmented care, limited access to the same caregiver throughout pregnancy, and minimal pre- and postnatal support once a baby is born.

Private birthing models like Matrescence Birthing Centres respond to this demand by prioritising relationship-based care, where families are supported by a known midwife or small care team across pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.

Matrescence Birthing Centres Gold Coast operates as a licensed private health facility under Queensland legislation, approved for Level 2 maternity and neonatal services and accredited to national safety standards. Emergency transfer arrangements are in place with local hospital networks to ensure clinical safety remains central.

Matrescence is now accepting bookings for families, with complimentary information sessions available for expectant parents exploring private, continuity-focused maternity care.

Demolition begins to pave way for new Surfers Paradise cultural hub

2.03.26

The new Gold Coast Music Hall is one step closer with works beginning on the contemporary live music venue in the heart of Surfers Paradise today.

The existing Transit Centre at Beach Road is being repurposed to create the venue for the Gold Coast with an indoor performance space for up to 2,500 people.

The Gold Coast Music Hall has been specifically designed as a modern, purpose-built live music venue to meet strong demand for a mid-sized touring auditorium and will also be suitable for comedy, cabaret, civic functions, and contemporary performances.

The venue’s design features will include an iconic entrance pavilion, foyer and bar, a main auditorium featuring a wrap‑around mezzanine balcony with tiered rear seating, a central box office and an outdoor event space.

The repurposed building will have a 50‑year lifespan and provide a contemporary venue for artists and audiences while complementing the nearby Surfers Paradise Revitalisation.

Bruce Bishop Carpark is currently undergoing essential renewal works on its five-level basement carpark section which has 870 parking spots directly underneath the Gold Coast Music Hall.

Investment into the Gold Coast Music Hall is estimated to be around $40 million and works are expected to be completed in 2028, weather permitting.

Trump Tower proposal set to shake up the Coast

25.02.26
A headline-making proposal has emerged for a high-profile beachfront address in Surfers Paradise, with The Trump Organisation confirming plans to partner with Altus Property Group on a new ultra-luxury hotel and residential tower. The 91-storey project is earmarked for the Trickett Street site – a long-watched address previously linked to stalled supertower plans – and, if approved, could rise to around 335 metres, potentially becoming Australia’s tallest building.

The proposed Trump International Hotel & Tower, Gold Coast would include a 285-room luxury hotel, 272 high-end residences, an exclusive multi-level beach club and more than 3,400 square metres of retail and dining space aimed at revitalising the central Surfers Paradise precinct. Executive vice president Eric Trump said the project signals the brand’s expansion into Australia and its focus on delivering globally recognised luxury hospitality experiences.

Still in early stages, the development has yet to lodge a formal application, but the announcement has already sparked strong discussion across the Coast. Supporters cite potential tourism and investment gains, while critics have raised concerns about scale, density and the future character of the beachfront strip.

Andrews breaks ground on South Beach, a $900M wellness-led coastal address in Surfers Paradise

4.02.26
Local Gold Coast developer Andrews has officially marked the start of construction on South Beach, its $900 million wellness-led coastal development in Surfers Paradise, with a sod-turning ceremony held this morning on site.

The milestone event signals the delivery phase of one of the Gold Coast’s most anticipated residential projects, bringing to life a design-led, resort-style address that redefines high-rise coastal living. Inspired by modernist Miami architecture and designed by internationally acclaimed architects Bates Smart, South Beach will comprise two 37-level towers above a six-level podium. It will deliver 394 residences ranging from one to four bedrooms, all featuring generous wrap-around balconies and either dual or triple-aspect living that captures uninterrupted ocean, river and city views.

Spanning a large 5,700sqm site across three street frontages, the development will become one of Australia’s most aspirational wellness-led addresses with over 5,500sqm of private resident amenities designed around wellness and connection. These include two resort-style outdoor pools, a Hammam, plunge pools, saunas, a state-of-the-art gym, a grounding lawn, a co-working hub and library, cinema, BBQ terraces and sub-tropical gardens, collectively creating a unique wellness circuit that encourages activation, immersion, recovery and reflection.

Ideally positioned just two blocks from the beach and within walking distance of Broadbeach and the Isle of Capri, South Beach is well connected via the G light rail and moments from Pacific Fair, Capri on Via Roma and The Langham.

To be delivered by Andrews’ in-house construction arm, A Construct, the project is expected to generate approximately 5000 jobs throughout its build program and is expected to be completed late 2028.

An immersive South Beach sales gallery is now open at 15 Albert Street. Apartments are priced from $925,000 for one-bedroom residences, $1.65 million for two-bedrooms and $2.3 million for three-bedrooms.

Highlife returns to the shoreline with Blonde, Bilinga’s best-kept secret

22.10.25
Set to redefine the southern Gold Coast skyline, Blonde is an exclusive collection of 19 luxury beachfront residences, bringing timeless design and an emphasis on wellness to the pristine shores of Bilinga.

Developed by Highlife Property Group and designed in collaboration with BDA Architecture, Blonde is located along the iconic Golden Four Drive, offering direct access to Bilinga’s uncrowded beachfront and panoramic ocean views stretching from Tugun to Kirra. But what sets Blonde apart is the depth of understanding that underpins every decision, from layout and materials to amenity and flow

The project was shaped by years of listening to Highlife’s buyers: how they live, what they value, what frustrates them, and what truly makes a home feel like a sanctuary. That insight, paired with the quiet, unspoiled character of Bilinga itself, guided the design direction toward calm, grounded, and effortless living across three- and four-bedroom residences.

Each home is oriented to the ocean, with wide, uninterrupted views that frame the horizon from sunrise to sunset. Large sliding doors, expansive glazing and smooth transitions create a breathable flow between indoors and out, ensuring residents are met with a continuous connection to the natural landscape.

Construction is now underway, with completion slated for mid-2027. The project has already attracted strong interest, with prices starting from $3.9 million.

07.10.25
Local Gold Coast developer Andrews has unveiled the first look at South Beach, a $900 million coastal lifestyle destination poised to become one of Australia’s most aspirational wellness-led addresses.

Inspired by modernist Miami architecture, South Beach is a bold collaboration with renowned architects Bates Smart, delivering a collection of design-led apartments that elevate coastal living in Queensland. The project features two 37 level towers rising above a six level podium, designed to maximise natural light, cross-flow ventilation, and dual or triple aspect living areas.

South Beach offers more than 5,500sqm of private amenities curated to inspire health, relaxation, and connection. Highlights include two resort-style outdoor pools, a Hammam, plunge pools, saunas, a state-of-the-art gym, grounding lawn, library and co-working hub, cinema, BBQ terraces, and sub-tropical gardens, all integrated to create a resort-style sanctuary in the sky.

Ideally located in the heart of South Surfers, just two blocks from the beach and within walking distance to Broadbeach and the affluent Isle of Capri, the 5,700 sqm site spans three street frontages and includes a restaurant spilling onto a landscaped outdoor seating area, and four levels of above-ground parking enhanced by lush cascade planting. The site is also well-connected, serviced by the G:Link light rail and moments from lifestyle destinations such as Capri on Via Roma, Pacific Fair, and The Langham.

Melbourne’s integrated Architecture, Design & Construction Studio to open first interstate office

04.09.25
Melbourne-based architecture, design and construction firm mckimm is expanding into South East Queensland, establishing its first interstate office to meet growing demand for high-end residential projects in the region.

From late August 2025, mckimm will operate from the Oxley 1823 building – also home to WHITEFOX Real Estate. The move follows the completion of several projects in Byron Bay and the Gold Coast, signalling the firm’s long-term commitment to the region.

Founding Director Nick McKimm and Director of Architecture Danica Garizio will oversee the new office. Nick McKimm, who purchased an apartment in Burleigh Heads in 2021, said the expansion reflects both professional and personal ties to Queensland.

“Spending time on the ground has given me a clear view of how the market is evolving. There is a growing appreciation for homes that are well-designed, functional and responsive to climate and lifestyle. With strong population growth and major infrastructure investment ahead of the 2032 Olympics, it is the right time to establish a permanent presence.”

As part of its expansion, mckimm has acquired a site in Burleigh Heads, where the team will design and construct a new residence that reflects the practice’s values and principles.

The Bayside Melbourne studio will remain the firm’s head office, while the Gold Coast base will support its growing pipeline of projects along the east coast.

Mermaid Beach is getting a glow-up: Meet the Alfred

13.05.25
Big things are coming to Mermaid Beach, and no, we’re not talking about the surf break. Local developer Daniel Veitch (yep, the guy behind The Oxley 1823 at Nobby Beach) is set to shake things up again with The Alfred – a bold new mixed-use project that’s bringing serious main character energy to the Gold Coast Highway. Sitting pretty just metres from the soon-to-arrive Mermaid Beach South light rail station, The Alfred will feature a 7-storey residential tower with 80 luxe apartments, a retail and dining precinct, and a leafy, pedestrian-friendly public realm. Think landscaped laneways, buzzing plazas, and an urban playground made for living, lounging, and latte-sipping.

Designed by BDA Architecture and J.AR Office, this isn’t your average building. The Alfred blends modernist style with sustainability smarts, think natural ventilation, seamless indoor-outdoor living, and lush sub-tropical greenery at every turn. The ground-level podium will serve up eats, drinks, and retail gems, while the luxury tower above will make the most of all that on-your-doorstep amenity. With three street frontages – Gold Coast Highway, Alfred Street, and Tamborine Street – the development takes full advantage of its prime spot.

Currently operating as Mermaid Beach Village (with a car park and retail offerings), the 4095sqm site is about to enter its main character era. The Alfred isn’t just a building, it’s a whole vibe.

Among the finalists are The Daydream House by Goldie Homes, YOMGPacific Fair by ElvinTan Design, and Burly Bar by Studio Plenty, each bringing a unique and bold approach to colour in design.

The Daydream House by Goldie Homes, a finalist in the Single Residential Exterior category, has already gained national attention after being featured on Grand Designs Australia.
