Say bonjour to your newest breakfast obsession. Luna’s Deli has officially landed in Coolangatta and honestly? We may never eat a supermarket croissant again. With French-trained pastry chefs at the helm and flaky, golden viennoiseries coming in hot, this Euro-chic café is giving pâtisserie goals, minus the 30-hour flight and screaming baby in seat 32B.

Inside this sunny, striped delight of a spot, you’ll find all the essentials: fresh-baked pastries, excellent coffee, and enough buttery goodness to make you question every other life choice. She’s cute, she’s coastal, and she’s here to ruin your “no carbs on weekdays” rule. Sorry, not sorry.

The day kicks off with flaky croissants, glossy pain au chocolat, and possibly a classic Croque Monsieur, generously filled with award-winning Bangalow ham. Add a silky flat white and boom – you’ve peaked before 9am. Come lunchtime, things get savoury with made-to-order deli-style focaccias and premium toasties that are comforting, generously stuffed and downright dreamy. Don’t even get us started on the afternoon line-up of travel cakes and small-batch gelato. It’s a sweet tooth’s fever dream and we’re living for it.

But it’s not just pretty pastries and grammable interiors, Luna’s is the real deal. Every treat is made fresh from scratch, no shortcuts, no weird preservatives, and absolutely zero regrets. It’s all crafted with love, using the best local ingredients and a big ol’ dollop of passion.

Speaking of passion: meet the dream team behind Luna’s, Yazmin and Loic. Yazmin is from Buenos Aires with Italian roots, trained in France under actual World Pastry Champions (yes, that’s a thing), and even taught at Le Cordon Bleu. He’s a Lyon local who was baking baguettes before sunrise and cheffing it up in Michelin-starred restaurants across Europe. Basically, they’re the Beyoncé and Jay-Z of pastry. Iconic.

And the name? A sweet little nod to the medialuna – Argentina’s answer to the croissant — and a perfect reflection of who Yazmin and Loic are: two pastry lovers chasing their buttery dream, now serving it up with a side of Cooly sea breeze.

Soon, Luna’s will be hosting baking classes (so you can learn how to roll dough like a pro), plus cheeky evening events like pizza parties, empanada nights and low-key wine and vibes. Très bon, indeed.

We know you'll be saying merci beaucoup.

If there’s one destination that knows fine food and booze, it’s France. The European epicentre of elegance and gastronomic greatness, who doesn’t want to eat their way through its plethora of cafes, restaurants, and bougee bistros (despite being about as fluent as a baguette).

Blessing us with croissants flakier than your ex, cheeses to make your taste buds swoon, and wines that are inspiring an influx of wannabe sommeliers, what’s not to love?

But who needs a pricey plane ticket when you can get a tantalising taste of France right here on the Gold Coast? Let’s unpack who’s who in the zoo of French cuisine in our own backyard.

It’s suave, it’s luxe, and it’s everything we want from a fancy French restaurant, with a little Gold Coast flair, of course.

Not to state the obvious, but you find that feeling at Chevron Island’s Dipcro Pastry in endless supply. They’re a patisserie that specialises in the scrumptious art of all things pastry and puff. A Matcha Mochi Pastry Tart anyone? How about an Espresso Tiramisu Mille Feuille? Or the Hazelnut Praline Cromboloni?!! 16 reasons locals love Coolangatta

It’s pretty Cool-y if you ask us.

Coolangatta is our southernmost suburb and it’s almost like stepping back in time for a taste of the good old Gold Coast, a little slower and sleepier (the way we like it) but with a sprinkle of some seriously epic eats for good measure – dreamy.

If you’re a fan of chill coastal vibes and pumping surf, where you can soak up the sunshine all-day long and hop from beach to bar as your heart desires then Cooly’s got your name written all over it. The laidback lifestyle is just one of the reasons why locals love this little beachside suburb, but we’ve found another 16 for when you want to go exploring.

Franc Jr’s
I’ts called the famous pizzeria for a reason, Franc Jr’s have gotten a rep for dishing up the best pizzas on the Gold Coast – maybe even Queensland. Big call, I know but IYKYK. Home of their signature Sicilian square pizza, pop down for takeaway or dine in with a bottle of pinot to wash down your pizza. Our pick is the red strip with a pickled grape salad on the side (sounds weird but trust the process) and a frozen marg if you fancy a tipple.

Pipi’s Restaurant
Cooly brought in the big guns with Brisbane hospitality mavens, the Gambaro Group bringing Pipi’s to life and it’s something Southern Gold Coasters have been waiting for. Pipi’s is the newest seaside sensation to call Cooly home and you best believe our tastebuds can’t get enough of it. Nothing to be crabby about with a Mediterranean-inspired menu – Chargrilled Mooloolaba King Prawns and Freemantle Octopus Carpaccio just a couple of the stars of the show. If you’re feeling boujee then treat yourself to a Kaviari Caviar Bump – served with a shot of Belvedere or glass of Tattinger.

Special mention to the cafe-style sequel to this suave new seafood nosher, Awaken Cafe. Situated underneath Pipi’s Awaken thos caffeine-slinging counterpart is giving girl-next-door (but, y’know, downstairs) in the very best way.
