You’ve seen the weekend packs of Lycra-clad cyclists rolling in for their post-ride caffeine fix. The humble “coffee ride” has become as much a part of cycling culture as the Tour de France. And now, thanks to Che Cafe & Bikes, Broadbeach Waters has the perfect pit stop to celebrate it.
At its heart, Che Cafe & Bikes is a tandem ride. Noel Charpentier, originally from Chile, brings the mechanical precision and passion that can only come from a lifetime on two wheels. With over 16 years in the cycling world, he’s competed internationally, taught mountain biking at some of Chile’s top schools and developed expertise in high-end bicycle service. For him, cycling is more than a sport, it’s a culture built around craftsmanship and community.
Ana Pedroza has spent her life immersed in community, and nearly two decades of working in restaurants, hotels, cafes and events across Argentina and Australia have only deepened that connection.
Noel and Ana met here on the GC, where their shared love for coffee and cycling began to merge into a bigger vision. Life took them to Perth where the plan to create a space that celebrated both their passions came together. By 2024, they had returned to the Gold Coast ready to shift things into gear.
The pair spent a year searching for the right spot before finding a space in Broadbeach Waters that simply clicked.
Designed by Andrea Paredes of Sensa Living, Che Cafe & Bikes feels less like a business and more like your most stylish friend’s living room, if your friend also happened to serve Argentinian pastries and fix carbon-fibre road bikes.
The cafe exudes mid-century cool with a dash of punk rock. Cyclists can roll right up to the bike workshop, while those taking a more leisurely pace can settle into the communal tables.
A neon sign beams from the wall declaring, “When in doubt, pedal it out” but Ana and Noel should add “and eat empanadas” to the motto, because their golden pockets are that good.
Fuel your ride with Ana’s traditional Argentine empanadas loaded with savoury minced beef, onions, capsicum, egg, olives and spices or go veg with a protein rich creamy spinach (bechamel), fetta, onion and spices.
Sugar cravings? Get your fix with flaky medialunas filled with sweet dulce de leche, custard cream, nutella & banana or coconut dulce de leche (Ana’s answer to an almond croissant, but better!)
Coffee can be canned on the spot for riding convenience, but if you’re staying a while, Che cafe also serves mate, a traditional Argentine herbal tea made from dried yerba mate leaves, sipped through a metal straw called a bombilla from a distinctive, gourd-shaped cup. This drink is said to increase focus and physical performance. Need we say more, mate? On ya bike to Che Cafe & Bikes!

Grab the gang and get rollin'.
Being a Gold Coaster, you’re no doubt aware that a bike crawl is the perfect mix of a bike ride and a pub crawl complete with a personally curated crew and hopefully a whole lotta laughs.
Plus, you get to drink beer while also exercising and that, friends, is the Aussie way. Grab the gang and get on board our route from Palm Beach to Broadbeach, with stops at all the very best spots along the way. Let’s just call just go ahead and call it the Tour de Gold Coast.
Palm Beach
To start the day off and to build a proper exercising foundation, meet at one of Palm Beach’s delightful brunch joints. We love Sisterhood Coffee, Barefoot Barista and Custard Canteen, all of whom offer quite unique and super yummy breakfast options – start your crawl the right way with a mean feed to get you going.
Once you’ve fuelled up and consumed a coffee or two, it’s time to saddle up and spin those wheels along Jefferson Lane, en route to Burleigh admiring all the fancy pants beach houses along the way.
Definitely stop in for a dip at Talle Creek once you’ve set yourself up with some of your Custard goodies (can confirm the Portugese Tarts slay), maybe check out some cute pups at the dog beach, snap an Insta pic (because if you don’t, were you even there) and off you go.
Burleigh Heads
After cruising around Burleigh Hill you’ll find yourself in beautiful Burleigh Heads and here your options are endless.
If you’re lucky, The Village Markets will be in full swing (they’re on the first and third Sunday of the month), so why not check out some local designers and shop up a little storm before drink time.
Once you’re done there, grab a baked treat at Tarte Bakery & Cafe, a bangin’ bacon & egg roll from Two Yolks, or head straight to Burleigh Pavilion for some pizza, cocktails and a balmy ocean breeze.
Feeling like some good ol’ pub grub? Head to Local or Apres Surf. If you’re after something a little bit different Mr Hizola’s and Jimmy Wah’s have your upmarket Asian cravings covered. On a budget? No problem, try Wahoos for some fish tacos or just pull up some grass on Burleigh Hill with a few takeaway pizzas from Justin Lane and watch the surf roll in.
Back on your bike and you’re off along the esplanade to Nobby’s, but don’t forget a quick stop at Palm Springs for a spicy marg – it’s one of their signature cocktails for good reason.
Nobby Beach
By now it’s probably early arvo and Nobby’s is sure to be in full swing. Park your pushies and head into The Arc for pizza and live music or Bine Bar & Dining next door for a pint or two of specialty craft beers and their cult favourite 75cent chicken wings (happy hour runs daily from 3pm to 6pm – you’re welcome).
Holliday Coffee is the next stop on the list, perfect for a caffeine hit (we’re assuming you’ll need it after all that biking) and a jaffle because carbs = life.
If you’re not up for a sneaky Sunday drink and more into the physical benefits of a bike crawl, BSKT has a huge range of healthy eats that will give you the fuel you need to push those pedals – they do also have wine and beer if you fancy a cheeky sip. If something more fancy is up your alley, try Ally Chow for delish Asian eats before heading upstairs to Tropic Vice for rooftop bar vibes and cocktails that taste like summer.
Once you’ve had your fill, it’s back on your bike and on the way to Mermaid Beach.
Mermaid Beach
Trek along Hedges Avenue through Mermaid and choose from a HUGE range of spots to stop along the way. Goccia is serving up all the very best Italian eats (carbs for energy obviously) while Poke Poke has tasty poke bowls and curries for days.
If you’re in need of another sweet treat (energy fuel of course) it would be rude not to have a pit stop at Bam Bam Bakehouse. Rumour has it an almond croissant is all you need to keep those legs moving because we’ve got another few stops on the map.
A little further along, the Mermaid Beach Surf Club has all of the icy cold beers to enjoy while overlooking the ocean and, once you’re suitably refreshed, it’s time to pedal on.
Broadbeach
The final destination is in sight, Broadbeach (if you’ve made it this far), with a HUGE array of eating and drinking holes to satisfy any desire.
Who needs food if you can have beer? Skip dinner and head straight to The Broadbeach for a huge, high vibin’ Sunday session.
Up for a little after beverage sweetie? Check out what’s swirling at cult favourite fro-yo joint Yo-Chi.
If you’re after something more relaxed, Kurrawa Surf Club has big meals and lots of cold drinks again, overlooking the ocean – plus, after all the riding no doubt you’ve worked up a hefty appetite.
For dinner, try Spice Kitchen & Bar for some next level Thai or Sofia’s for a pasta fix – both at The Oasis Shopping Centre. If work’s off the menu for Monday and more drinks are in order, Marilyn’s Bar is just a short ride away and the perfect small bar vibe to round out the night.
And you’re done! What a time. Make sure you’ve locked up your bikes, share an Uber home and pick up your loyal companion Monday arvo.

Dracula’s Cabaret Restaurant
If you’re after a tried and tested, long-standing comedy cabaret, good ‘ole Dracs has been serving up frights, food and frivolity since we were all ankle-biters. Most people are sold when they hear there’s a ghost train alone, let alone the actual show, which changes every so often, so there’s always a reason to go back! Enjoy a quality 3-course dinner and a menu of magical and mystical cocktails and shots!

Social Eating House + Bar
If you consider yourself a gastronome, then this Oracle Blvd darling is for you. Social serves modern Australian flavours in a casual meets fine dining setting. For this, they’ve secured more hats than a Milliner’s workshop and have just won 3 glasses at the 2024 Australia’s Wine List of the Year Awards. This comes as no surprise with Executive Chef Matthew Jefferson in charge. With a recently refreshed menu (promised to please even the most refined palates), you’ll experience a carefully curated range of bar snacks, charcuterie, and small and large share plates featuring the finest Australian ingredients and paired to perfection.

Blues on Broadbeach
Unlike our other listings, this one’s not here 24/7. However, it’s that much of a Broady icon that it would be criminal not to throw it a mention. As the name suggests, it brings us world-class blues music and jazz from locals and famous acts alike, performing across multiple venues over four unforgettable days. And it’s free. When does that ever happen?!

Elk Espresso
This place has never met an empty table; it’s constantly bulging at the seams with raving fans. Of course, we are one of such fans. Just a hop, skip and a jump from the beach, the coffee is all-time, the menus are seasonal and heavenly, and they do a Boozy Bottomless Brunch. And sold!

The Oasis
It’s an everyday escape for locals, and one of our top shopping centres on the coast (for good reason). The Oasis is home to stunning fashion boutiques, and the number of fabulous eateries at hand is impressive in of itself. In addition to the ones we highlight in this article, we’re talking Mario’s, Madison’s Café and Patisserie, Spice Kitchen and Bar, and The Broadbeach Tavern, to name just a few. It’s a #OneStopShop.

Broadbeach Bowls Club
Ahhh, good old lawn bowls. The game that never fails to deliver a good time. If you’re looking for the best way to spend a chill arvo on the GC, it’s with a game of barefoot bowls, brew in hand at Broadbeach Bowls Club. When you’re finished, they have a full bistro menu waiting with big portions of all your go-to pub-grub meals. They also have a canape package perfect for a laid-back birthday or celebration.

kōst Bar & Grill
Just over a year old, yet kōst has already wriggled its way onto our hot list… sneaky bugger. Just kidding, they’re here for a reason, and credit is due! The contemporary style bar and grill is perfect for sophisticated sips, flame-grilled eats and boujee’ bar snacks’, all within a relaxed-luxury setting. Champagne with a side of caviar, anyone?

No Name Lane
Well, if it isn’t No Name Lane making a name for themselves as Blake Lively’s favourite coffee. In her exact words “”the best coffee of her life”. We can attest to this, alongside the cafe’s cult local following. Not only are they adored for their cuppa, but their all-day breakfasts and gourmet lunches also go down a treat so if you haven’t been, remedy this immediately.

Kurrawa Surf Club
Ocean views don’t come any better than this. With legit THE most prime location, Kurrawa Surf Club has everything you’d want from a Surf Club…and more. With awesome regular members specials and fresh ingredients, there’s no such thing as a bad meal here. They host a trivia night and live music, and of course there’s the obligatory gaming lounge for those who like a flutter.

CHA CHA Japanese Restaurant
Gold Coasters have been CHA CHA bound for an authentic Japanese nosh-up which won’t break the bank for years, and that’s not about to change any time soon. The banquet menu is divine and every visit you’ll experience the same level of scrumptiousness. But the soy on the dim sum…it’s BYO and it’s hard to find an already affordable yet high-quality restaurant offering our 3 favourite letters. Score.

Pacific Fair
This list wouldn’t be complete without mention of THE queen. Pacific Fair (aka Pac Fair) is any Gold Coasters first point of call when a new ensemble or therapy (retail or other) is required. It has every retailer you could possibly wish for, fabulous food options and indisputably the most gorgeous fit-out you’ve ever seen. Nothing rivals it.

Costa Taco
You bet we did a happy dance when news broke that our fav taqueria from Palm Beach had opened a third location in Broady (the second was Byron). For us, and many (most) Gold Coasters, it was a love at first bite. Costa Taco stole our taste buds with their authentic, flavour-filled eats and there was no turning back. And why would we? You would have to be coco to say no no to coconut margaritas?

The Lamb Shop
In a pita shell, you’re getting bangin bar snacks and succulent souvlaki- what’s not to love? After a long day on Broadbeach beach (presumably), when you’re feeling sun-kissed and salt wrapped, is there anything better than biting into a tangy lamb-filled pita wrap to replenish exerted energy? No! The Lamb Shop’s entire menu is prepared in-house daily, using only fresh local produce, premium cuts and authentic grilling techniques. That’s why we love em!

The Beach Hotel Broadbeach
There’s no better place to snag a seat and sink a beer (or a Golden Hour Sour) on a Saturday arvy than at the brand new The Beach Hotel in Broadbeach. The airy spaces and indoor-outdoor flow let the sea breeze carry through the beer garden into the public bar. The vibe is set to ‘summer chill’, eats are delish, sips are refreshing and every corner is designed for the perfect gathering with your pals. After some spirited fun, head inside Cora, a restaurant within The Beach Hotel, where fine dining and a laid-back atmosphere come together to deliver palate-pleasing Mediterranean-inspired bites and crisp, cool drinks. Don’t mind if we do.

A food that needs zero introduction – pizza is Italy’s gift to the world that just keeps on giving (to our happiness levels and waistlines, mainly). From office parties to cozy date nights, this god-tier culinary creation is the celebratory cornerstone of gatherings everywhere. We can think of no occasion that isn’t improved by the addition of this beloved Italian staple…. and if there is, we don’t wanna know about it.
A dish steeped in tradition; pizza is divisive as it is delicious. Team crispy, or team chewy and chonky, deep dish style? Then there’s the question of the toppings – to olive, or not to olive? – and don’t even get us started on pineapple!
Heck, even trying to narrow down which of our fine establishments serve the best slice is a controversial endeavour. Which is why we’ve compiled this trusty guide to all the most legit GC pizza joints in whom pizza-loving locals eternally crust.

Ready to take a tour of Italy’s most famous cities all under one roof? Italia Moto brings each region to life on a pizza! Head to the Italian countryside with Bruno Pancetta – San Marino with truffle cream base, marinated potato, pancetta and parmesan. Or go coastal with Giovanni Gamberi – Sicily featuring pesto base, mozzarella, cherry tomato, marinated prawns in garlic, lemon and chilli. End your Italian escape with a scoop of gelato, and that’s amore!

You know where there’s BYO, there’s good times ahead. Papa Rolly’s is your go-to neighbourhood spot, bringing together all the home-style, beloved dishes from their family of eateries (you know em Gemelli). Pair your favourite bottle with a woodfired pizza or a hearty pasta. Hell yeah!

Where: 124 Pappas Way, Carrara
True to its name, Fire Baby brings heat and flavour in equal measure. Think hot-out-of-the-oven pizza washed down with an Inferno Mezcal Margarita! This Southport hotspot serves up woodfired pizzas, share plates, and cocktails in a seriously sleek space. It’s the kind of spot that quickly becomes your go-to, weeknights and weekends alike.
Our pick: Quattro Formaggi pizza
Where: 8-10 Welch Street, Southport
Rossa brings authentic Italian to Southport with blistered crust, doughy bases and fresh, flavourful toppings. Simple, rustic, and utterly delicious, it’s a place where the pizza does all the talking. Grab a glass of red, take a seat, and let the laid-back Italian atmosphere wash over you. For purists and casual diners alike, Rossa hits all the marks.
Our pick: Pepperoni Pizza (best seller)
Where: 59 Meron Street, Southport
Situated right next to the pristine beach, La Calabrese at Ocean is all about traditional Italian ingredients with a modern twist. The pizzas in particular are food-gasmic, and if you don’t concur, then soz but #weir-dough. Anything but your average pizza, a process called ‘biga’ is used to make the dough, and honestly, the ‘yeast’ we can do is divulge why this technique is so special. How about a fior di latte, Italian sausage, ham, mild salami, and oregano? Drool.

Where: Where: Level 1, 84 The Esplanade, Surfers Paradise
If simple Italian flavours done exceptionally well toot your horn, then make a date with The Star Gold Coast’s Cucina Vivo. Chef Fabio has gained quite the cult following, affectionately known as the best Pizzaiolo Chef outside of Italy. This man is the master of the woodfire oven, and the ever-popular venue’s secret weapon. Date night sorted!

If you haven’t been to Gemelli in Broadbeach, are you even a true Gold Coaster? Rustic yet stylish, with handcrafted pizzas, house-made pasta, and a buzzing atmosphere, Gemelli nails Italian food with a modern twist. Authentic, flavour-packed, and full of heart, this is the kind of place Nonna would happily approve of.
Our pick: Patate Pizza
Where: 2/2685 Gold Coast Highway, Broadbeach
Double Zero is certified Neapolitan pizza heaven (fun fact: they were the first Neapolitan pizzeria in QLD). Think gorgeous woodfired pizza with leopard-spotted crust, cooked for just 90 seconds! Award-winning, authentic, and endlessly satisfying- this is where true pizza lovers go to geek out.
Our pick: Crudo Pizza
Where: 2/2715 Gold Coast Highway, Broadbeach
Two essentials in one place: award-winning pizza and gelato. Every woodfired dough pillow (aka, pizza) is bursting with flavour and fresh toppings, no matter which you choose. Then, you gotta finish strong with creamy house-made gelato. Or, you could finish stronger again with a Tartufo Di Pizzo (half hazelnut, half chocolate gelato, and filled with melted chocolate!). You don’t need to convince us.
Our pick: Al Salame Pizza and Nocciola gelato (2 scoops is a must)
Where: East Tower The Phoenician Building, Shop 10/104 Surf Parade, Broadbeach
Sapori is a little slice of authentic Italy with a welcoming, cosy atmosphere and pizzas that showcase perfectly fermented, woodfired bases. The interior is just adorable, the toppings are generous, the wine list is solid, and the staff are friendly as they come. Needless to say, it’s a top choice for casual dinners or celebratory nights out. Sapori feels like that neighbour who always knows exactly how to make pizza perfect.
Our pick: Marg on Steroids Pizza
Where: Santa Cruz Village, 60 Santa Cruz Blvd, Clear Island Waters
They’ve built a loyal following so devoted, you’d think they were running a pizza cult (a cult we would happily be a part of)- fans happily trek across town just for their Franc Jnr’s fix. Famous for their thick Detroit-style slices, this spot oozes old-school charm. Walking in feels like stepping into a ’90s pizzeria where everything is unapologetically classic- retro vibes with bold flavours.
Our pick: White Boy Rick (that sesame crust lives in our dreams)
Where: Shop 2/32 Lavarack Road, Nobby Beach and 2/102 Griffith Street, Coolangatta
Where do we even begin with Lenny Pizzeria & Bar? Let’s just say, their 72-hour fermented dough hits different—light, chewy, and full of flavour that’ll have you questioning every other slice you’ve ever had.
No matter how you slice it, the addition is a total score for Railway Street’s dining scene, with sensational woodfired delights like fermented chilli-kissed Prawn and Calamari Pizza served with confit garlic, parsley and lemon. You know the drill: two, four, six, eight…
Our pick: Fancy 4 Cheese
Where: 58 Railway Street, Mudgeeraba
Here’s a factoid for you – in Italy, the term “bar” stands for more of a watering-hole-meets-cafe hybrid; combining coffee, cocktails, sweet snacks like pastries and quintessential savoury Italian fare… so basically, all the best things. Unintentional micro geography lesson aside, this concept is exactly what owner Riccardo ‘Ricky’ Proserpio set about recreating at Crispy – and now you know this place is fantastic for several reasons, including a top-tier traditional pizza selection. To name just one, the long-standing fave, Margherita, which also comes in a 1/2 metre in size. You won’t be disappointed.

Where: 4/1840 Gold Coast Highway, Burleigh Heads
There’s no denying that Burleigh stalwart, Justin Lane, is the king of pizza. It’s come a long way from its humble beginnings, growing from a wee little pizzeria into a heaving multi-level restaurant, bar and event space. The perfect spot for a casual slice and catch up with your crew (so we assume the cocktails are implied). Pick your cutest stretchy pants, you’re bound to run into at least 35 people that you know. And that’s just on a Monday.
Our pick: Justin’s BBQ Smokehouse
Where: 2/10 James St, Burleigh Heads
Burleigh Pizza is the laid-back, old-school hero locals love. Big, cheesy slices that hit the spot every time, casual service, and a relaxed atmosphere make it perfect for takeaway to the beach or a simple night in. Stone-baked with local ingredients = seriously good pizza.
Our pick: Hawaiian (simple is just best, sometimes)
Where: 7/1837 Gold Coast Hwy, Burleigh Heads
Laid-back, intimate, and perfect at sundown – T’amero brings delicious pizza without the fuss, a lil fancy, and all the flavour. The vibe is welcoming, the pizza is consistently excellent, and the whole experience feels just a little special. Vino, crispy slices and sunset- yes please!
Our pick: Rustic Pizza
Where: 6 Treeview Dr, Burleigh Waters
You’ve seen it. We’ve all seen it. The sprawling, modern industrial stunner fronting Palmy’s main drag is a total traffic-stopper, and we’re pleased to confirm that its contents are as epic as the outside. And when it comes to amazing nosh across the board, Balboa Italian sure isn’t pulling any punches. In particular, the pizzas are #goals #IYKYK – and if you don’t – we would suggest remedying this immediately. Take your pick between the selection of red and white sauce bases, or try them all because carbs, shmarbs.
Our pick: Number 1 or Vegan Lovers
Where: 1069 Gold Coast Highway, Palm Beach
A cosy and super cute spot where Mediterranean and Moroccan vibes collide; Toro’s does pizza with panache. With peach tones for days (#swoon) – the spread at Palmy’s cosy slice slinging haven is quintessentially Italian, but with a healthy dose of tasty modern takes to keep us on our toes. The super relaxed yet chic vibe is just our type, and the pizzas will delight even the most discerning pizza connoisseur. There’s even dessert pizza if that’s your jam… (well, Nutella, technically speaking). Yep, she’s a winner on all fronts.

Where: 7/2 Eighth Ave, Palm Beach
One minute, we’re passing through Currumbin minding our own business, and the next, our mouths immediately commence watering at the mere sight of Tommy’s telltale red and white umbrellas adorning the promenade. And that’s before we’ve even caught wind of the freshly-flamed bites bubbling away within! In only a few short years, this two-storey cutie has become a fixture along the suburb’s seaside strip; serving up multi-million dollar ocean views and mighty fine pizzas to match (and cocktails… because nothing says happiness like a slice of Italy in one hand and a margi in the other). Who can resist? Certainly not us.
